I was able to meet Jean years ago as she was writing the first addition of this book. She did a workshop at church that not only helped me heal things in myself, it also taught me healthy ways to parent. In the uneven parenting I received I was able to use this book as the basis for doing better for my children. I picked up this second addition to have on hand in my pastoral library. Wonderful resource!

This excellent guidebook promotes respectful relationships! It contains both affirmations and explanations of hurtful interpersonal behaviors. Parents and teachers will become more skillful as they realize the importance of providing both realistic expectations (nurture) and sturdy boundaries (structure).

The book zoned in on what I had missed emotionally in my youth. I was able to put a finger on the fact that my life’s foundation was based on denial and discounting, a topic that the book touched on a lot.

The chapter on “Ages and Stages” is definitely an eye opener and you can relate a lot of experiences from it.

It’s a must read for everyone.

This book is EXCELLENT! I have learned SO MUCH about myself and my kids through this book. This is a definate must-read for anyone and everyone who has kids or who might have and/or want kids. Even if you had or think you had a great childhood, this book has vital information for helping to understand the reason behind your own and the kid’s behaviors. I am half-way through this book and already know I will read this book over and over.

This is the single best guide for parenting ever developed. As a retired school counselor, I continue to use this material when working with parents wanting assurance they are doing the best parenting possible.
